Unexpected uses of fandom

Years ago, I sang "Ode An Die Freude" with my local community chorus...chorus member, not soloist :-P The full version, and it was a great experience.

So today, gorging myself on seasonal music as I usually do at this time of year, I decided to search for any performances of it on YouTube. And I had a brain freeze, and I mean an absolute brain freeze, when I could neither remember the title of it nor who composed it. So what saved me? Suddenly flashing back to an episode of due South in which Fraser deliriously sings a few bars of it and, when shushed by Ray, indignantly protests, "It's Beethoven!"

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I was able to recall one of the greatest symphonic compositions of the last few centuries.

Hee. That's one of my all-time favorite episodes, too...other TV series included!
