Way, way behind...

Haven't logged into LJ in about a week, so am very behind on flist and various comms.
Saw King Kong, not because I'm a Kong fan, but simply because Peter Jackson and team were at the controls. Very mixed feelings about it, still need some sorting out. The easily-categorized stuff (no spoilers):
1. Naomi Watts, whom up to now I've been indifferent to, is nothing short of luminous.
2. The movie could probably stand a bit of judicious trimming, especially of most, if not all, scenes involving slo-mo, which come off as heavy-handed rather than profound (I had a similar issue with Jackson's (over)use of slo-mo in ROTK).
3. The animation team/Andy Serkis accomplishes with Kong what I felt they never quite got with Gollum: making me honestly forget, in certain scenes, that Kong is a CGI creation.
4. The opening sequence is simply marvelous.
5. Supporting characters suffer a bit, with the odd problem of being simultaneously too-fleshed-out and not well-fleshed-out enough.
6. Oh, and Thomas Kretschmann as Captain Englehorn? Smokin'.
Managed to miss an entire two weeks of TV. So I don't know how either of the Apprentices ended, which means I'll have to stay away from TWOP until I somehow manage to find someone with tapes. Missed this week's rerun of Supernatural (again). Missed Hugh Laurie on Ellen. Grr.
* * *
Where has my time been spent, you ask? A big chunk of it went to trying out URU for the first time. And I absolutely fell in love with it.
I can only imagine the thrill of playing it online. Excuse me while I go sob somewhere.

Date: 2006-01-07 06:43 am (UTC)There's Until Uru if you're really dying for a multiplayer pass...and some interesting noises from the DRC have been showing up on the forums of late, I hear. 0_0
BTW, back in the day while Live was still alive, I bought some Sculpey to make construction cone earrings... Heeheehee...
Cone soccer!!!!!!!!!
...Dang. I still miss that sound...cones being scooted around.
Actually I tended to knock them off high places a lot. ^^; Sometimes they're more of a hazard to navigation than a helpful warning. -_-

Date: 2006-01-10 06:38 am (UTC)I'd love to see your earrings if you ever do make them...what a neat idea.
Until Uru sounds great, my friend and I (whose schedules never coordinate) will probably check it out after we've played a little more...

Date: 2006-01-10 07:01 am (UTC)There was a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Cones...
One sort of amusing thing I heard about was that since avatars couldn't 'touch' each other, but could touch cones, and only so many people could fit in some city spaces together, if someone went afk in the city, someone could use cones to push that person's avvie off a cliff, where they'd panic link and go back to their own relto. ^^;;; I never saw that happen, but I did see afk people get surrounded by cones while they were away, only to return to find themselves up to the neck in friendly orange...
We figured out how to get them into the fountains in the neighborhoods, too. And brought fireflies all over...Oops! ^_~
If I get to the earrings, I'm sure I'll post pics on my blog, so I'll letcha know. ^_^
And if you guys do get going on Until Uru, let me know a time and a shard and I can meet you there.... ^_________________^ Even if I have to draw up a new avvie, doesn't take that long to get through the cleft. ^_^
