Jeeves And The Charm Bracelet.

I've been a fan of the Fry & Laurie Jeeves and Wooster, and of the Jeeves stories, for over a decade. Every few years I "rediscover" them, much to my delight.

This time around, they provided the inspiration for my latest piece of jewelry.

I don't often do charm bracelets, but I couldn't resist this one. It's got ten charms, each of which were inspired by J&W.

It contains, in no particular order:

  • "London" charm, featuring Big Ben
  • "New York" charm, featuring the Statue of Liberty
  • grand piano
  • a pearl (for one of Bertie's greatest triumphs)
  • a lovely classic car
  • pitcher and cup (for that domestic touch)
  • a glass leaf (for those weekends in the country)
  • golf clubs
  • paintbrush and palette (for all those escapades that began with some blasted painting)
  • and last but not least, a small shiny heart (for all those romantic entanglements, engagements, and expressions of the proper feudal spirit)

That's just adorable. :D

I love that roadster charm. I *think* I might have one similar to it, since used to collect charms that represented my quirks and tastes...

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! In fact, spotting that roadster charm was what sparked off the notion to do this bracelet. It was just too perfect to pass up.

[identity profile] ant-bug.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I were a girl. I'd be all over that. Like, if you sold it, I'd have bought one already. :D

[identity profile] juliacarmen.livejournal.com 2008-05-02 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The bracelet put me in mind of a watch-chain.
Lovely selection of charms!
I wouldn't be surprised if Bertie had a few baubles on his watch-chain. Perhaps there's a diamond ring among them.
Actually, it might be Jeeves who has a diamond-ring watch-chain charm, carefully hidden behind the button-hole to which the chain is affixed, so it can be felt but not seen. A gift from Mr Wooster, either commemorating all the times he didn't have to give the ring to a bally beazel, or for another reason :-)

The heart is totally for the love between Jeeves and Wooster. :)

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
It's a little subtle statement for those of us who know where the true romance lies :-)

[identity profile] umpteenth-gail.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
How delightful! Now I want one too, LOL. Did you collect those charms individually, or did you find the bracelet just as it is and realise it was meant to be?

I like the London and car charms.

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks much! I put the whole thing together myself, including the chain which I cut to length, then added the toggle. Finding the appropriate charms was the most fun part--had to pay attention to catch the good ones, but it was all worth it.

That is so completely adorable. I want one! I love the idea of themed jewelry, and even better, it's Jeeves and Wooster!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Not sure yet if I'll make more, but if you really want one, let me know.

Do your icon keywords really say "family photo"? That is hilarious.

LOVE IT! (also J+W, I miss it) all you need is the hat that he steals in the first episode!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh goodness...I'd love to find charms of any of their hats, if anyone knows where to find them!

I miss J&W, too. Lately I've been re-watching quite a lot of them.

[identity profile] lizreay.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! My wonderful brother bought me series box set for xmas, so I watch them whenever I want. Fry's Jeeves has actually taught me a little about ironing, too. :)

Lucky you! Your brother sounds like a spiffing chap.

Oh that's so lovely! And a wonderful idea. All those charms are... charming!

When one of my best friends got married, a girl who loved Lord of the Rings, I made her 9 wine charms to represent each of the 9 members of the Fellowship. It was fun.

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, thanks. It was great fun browsing for charms.

I love the LOTR idea. What charms did you use?

Thanks. The hard part now is knowing when to stop--I find myself on the lookout for more charms when I'm out!

[identity profile] annabell-e.livejournal.com 2008-05-04 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
the charms are a lovely selection! i especially love the classic car, at first sight i thought it's a bike! very pretty!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-05-05 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! The car's probably my favorite too, because it just fits so well.
