...all we know is, he's called the Stig.

After I made my first TG cushion, a number of people said I really ought to do something with the Stig. To those people, I say: this is partly your fault :-)

Close-up of his gloves.

The design is a single layer of white felt over the background black felt. His torso, for instance, is all one sheet of white (minus two of the fingers on his left glove), carefully cut to let the black show through.

The reverse side of the cushion demands an answer to what is truly the question of our times:

There's a reason I don't do embroidery: it takes me ages, and I'm kind of crap at it. Making TG things has gotten me to do it twice now (the first time for Oliver), but that'll be it for me! At least this one isn't too embarrassing.

Wow! That is FANTASTIC! I wish I had creative talent like that!!

Thank you! It was a real challenge to figure out how to show him without too many lines, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

hee! as with both your other cushion and especially oliver, that is awesome! great job. :D

Thanks very much. When I first started watching TG I never imagined I'd wind up inspired to do so much sewing for it!

You need to stop making awesomely cool things that look cool and awesome.

Actually no, wait, don't stop.

:-D I've got a list of things I want to make, I just wish I worked faster! I've seen people whip up great things in a fraction of the time it takes me to make something, I don't know how they do it...

Thank you! It was fun to design.

Thanks! My original design for this used more shades of grey, but I really wanted to see if I could keep it b&w only, because it just seemed more appropriate for the Stig. Eventually I worked it out!

Awesome! Even the husband (who is extremely hard to please) commented "That's *nice!*"

Well, thanks to both of you then!

Ooooh. Little fiddly finger bits!
How excellent ^.^

Thanks! You don't know how happy I am that the Stig wears b&w gloves, because otherwise it would have been a devil to design his torso and still keep the design simple. As it was, I could use just the black trim on his gloves to show his pose.

*ovation*

Absolutely loverly!! :-)

*wishes for TG icons and more icon space*

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

You could always rotate your icons, which is what I did until LJ expanded their icon space.

True, I could do... but that sounds suspiciously like work. ;-)

My fiance would cream himself over one of those.

Hee. I don't know whether you should show him then or not...

Fantastico!

(Is there any chance of a pattern for this, or was it a one-off?)

(need moar TG iconses.)

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I only had a rough guide for this one, not really a proper pattern...

I do have a pattern for my first cushion, if you're interested.

omg it's so great! the back, i love, the stitching is so neat and the letters are perfect. fantastic job!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw thank you! I'm actually a bit happier with the letters now that I've had some time to go back and look at it again.
