ldhenson: (merlin's magic disco ball)

So. Merlin.

What happens when S1 of Merlin ends and we have to wait ages for S2?

This.

Yeah, yeah, everyone talks about the big slash dragon under the castle, but the dragon I really like is the one on Camelot's shield.

I've decided his name is Cuddles.

Uther will not be pleased.

Tough luck, Uther.

Cuddles only has the two hind limbs, so technically he's a wyvern not a dragon, but all the knights laughed at "Arthur Penwyvern."

His tongue is a four-strand braid of thread. (Yeah, that was a good idea.) Depending on his mood, it can either mean he's thirsty, saying "bleah," blowing a raspberry at you, or he wants a bite of your curry. And you'd better give it to him, too, because he can fry you like a Hot Pocket.

His eyes are a fetching copper color. They glitter, but you can't see that through the camera.

Like my other dragons, Cuddles' wings, tail and neck are wired. Unlike them, he isn't really poseable. His wiring is only for support.

Also unlike my other dragons, his wings aren't quite anatomically plausible. But hey, I makes 'em like I sees 'em.

(Ignore the loose white thread on the table. I had a spool sitting nearby.)

"I vigilantly stand guard over Camelot from any and all--hey, is that curry I smell?"

ETA: Second iteration of plush dragons

Oh my god, he's PRECIOUS! Now I am totally wanting to try my hand at this - I'll have to dig up that book, because your bat is too cute for words, too!

Now I want to write the cracky little story where they find a nest of tiny wyverns (ala Anne McCaffery's firelizards) and the next thing you know Cuddles is dive-bombing everything in sight and Merlin can't stop laughing and Arthur's got one living practically in his hair and Uther's eye keeps twitching (but for some reason he can't manage to kill them).

Oh thank you! That book really is good, because the patterns are mostly simple yet she pays a lot of attention to how the animals/objects really look, so the finished toys look very nice. And she explains some useful design concepts.

Hahaha...if you wrote that I would SO read it.

[identity profile] tricksterquinn.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that sounds awesome. I'll look around for it.

*covers eyes* Don't tempt me!

You should definitely post a pattern for Cuddles. So we can make him friends at home. *shifty* If, of course, you don't mind.

[identity profile] sinjah.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I am doing something completely out of character and commenting on an entry with lots and lots of comments (there is no excuse for why I don't usually do this. I am ashamed of myself) because THIS IS HOW MUCH THIS DRAGON ROCKS!

And also because your post made me laugh. So much. And also because my little fangirly heart went THUMPTHUMPSQUEE somewhere in the middle of there. And kept going like that. I think that point was this: I've decided his name is Cuddles. Uther will not be pleased.

I think I love you. Also, I must have one of your dragons! Kidnapping plotting is in order!

PS: I warned you in my other comment that I would stalk your LJ more!

PPS: Don't mind me, it's probably the sugar high! Oh Christmas sweets, oh Christmas sweets, of all the sweets most lovely!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-12-30 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm glad you commented. (Cuddles says he is, too.) And glad the post gave you a laugh! The show really grabbed me at a time when I was most definitely not looking for yet another new show, and I just channeled a lot of my enthusiasm into this and my Pendragon snowflake. And I almost talked myself out of making him, too.

You're welcome on my LJ anytime. Thank for the kind words!

I heard wonderful things about Merlin from fandom, so I thought I'd give it a go, but, like you, I didn't expect to grow quite so fond of it! It's just so adorable! Everyone is so cute and cuddly (so the name Cuddles for the Camelot dragon is, in my opinion, extremely appropriate) and hilarious.

The fact that there's a lot of great fanfiction out there already is a huge added bonus. I can't wait for the second season! Do you have any idea when it'll start? I am ignorant when it comes to the ways of foreign television.

And you are not American, judging by the time you're online! European? Or in US and staying up really really late?

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and the thing is, I usually like my dramas dark and gritty, but I can't complain about the cuteness either :-) I haven't really read much of the fanfic yet but I'm pleased to see people have really gotten into it so fast. Fannish creativity can be remarkable.

As for S2, I've been hearing next fall. So it's going to be a loooong wait...

Or in US and staying up really really late?

::whistles innocently::

[identity profile] sinjah.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, I love how big a fandom it already has become! I could point you to some great fics if you want. I have to warn you that they are of the slashy variety ;)

Next fall? Long wait indeed! Might teach myself how to make a Cuddles for myself to meanwhile. Or might badger you into writing tutorials XD

::tsks and shakes head disapprovingly::

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the fic rec offer, I'd love to read some but I'm waaaay behind on my reading list right now. Something to look forward to in the long gap until S2 though...

I may think about a pattern for Cuddles later...I'm also behind on drawing up patterns as well! Right now I'm trying to put one together (to sell) for my other dragon (http://ldhenson.livejournal.com/189887.html). If you come up with your own version I'd love to see it!

[identity profile] kilted.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
When I saw him I IMMEDIATELY though "Oh hey! It's the Pendragon dragon!" Very nice... And your little description/story is wonderful!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, I'm glad he was recognizable!

[identity profile] bigredkitty.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
This it really cool! Did you do all the sewing by hand? Your descriptions made me giggle it made me happy...hot pocket, Hah!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yes, all the cutting and sewing by hand. It's a lot of hard work, but he was worth it!

[identity profile] belenustenebrae.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, my, just absolutely beautiful. I love your dragon. *squishes*

wow, you are great at that! i've been fiddling with felt lately and it's harder than it looks!!

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Felt can behave in unexpected ways sometimes, but it can also be very forgiving. I love it because there's a nice thickness there to work with.

[identity profile] mawaridi.livejournal.com 2009-04-08 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he is so adorable! You are extremely talented, what beautiful work :)

[identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I love having him around; it makes the wait for the next series a little easier :-)
