The Naturalist's Box.

It's been a while since I made a playable shadow box. I first had the idea for this one over a year ago, but what with one distraction and another, it took me ages to pull it all together. Now it's finished!
It was inspired by Master and Commander.

It's called "The Naturalist's Box." The box holds an assortment of items and is divided into compartments, but as you can see, some of the walls have openings. The object of the game is to tilt the box and roll each item properly into its labeled compartment.

There's a sea-turtle egg, a berry, a piece of driftwood, a piece of lapis, a nugget of gold, and a pearl.

Lining the box sides are pieces from a 1794 naval map and from a score by Corelli (the violin and cello lines, of course).

Appropriately for a collection box like this, the top opens up.

A closeup of the "lapis" marble...in the wrong compartment.

Everything where it should be. Hmmm...did I cheat?
I prefer to think of it as a tactic.
ETA: Forgot to include this photo:

The underside of the box is covered in green felt to protect tabletops.
