Another fandom seems to be creeping up on me. As if I didn't have enough on my plate already.
It started when I went to the local library to pick up another Discworld book. Since for me the main joy of reading these books comes from the surprise of reading the jokes and plot twists, my usual m.o. is to read a book once, wait until I've mostly forgotten it, then read it again, thus giving myself the opportunity of "re-discovering" it afresh. Repeat according to preference. Since Terry Pratchett is (bless him) a prolific writer and thus I have plenty of other books to read while I'm in the process of forgetting others, this scheme has stood me in good stead for the past number of years.
Anyway, the book I was looking for at the library wasn't there, despite the computer's insistence that it was, so I picked up Good Omens just for the heck of it. I'd read it before, possibly twice, years ago, and had just about forgotten enough (which is to say, quite a lot).
Back then, I remember looking for GO fic online. Not that I was terribly interested in reading some; it's just that you get fanfic sometimes for the most unexpected things, so I was idly curious. And I think there was a grand total of one fic.
So a few days ago I was rather staggered to find a lot of GO fic online. On ff.net alone (which, say what you will about the varying quality of its content, nonetheless serves as a very rough estimate of the output of various fandoms relative to one another) there's nearly 220 stories. Not bad for a fandom that seems to have lain dormant (fic-wise) for so many years.
And then some of the fic started to catch my attention. Some of it because it was really quite good. Some of it not because it was exactly what I was looking for, but because I was just hungry for more.
Unfortunately while I'm an A&C fan, I'm not an A/C fan, which narrows the pickings somewhat. (All right, considerably.) Still, I'm a month behind in reading OUATIM fic (and hopelessly behind in POTC and LOTR) and oh dear another distraction...
