I've been waiting for this movie for five or six months now, since I saw the first trailer.

I finally went to see Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow last night.

But I won't be posting a review today. And why is that? you ask.

Because, with something like ten minutes left in the film, the power abruptly went out in the theater.

And I mean abruptly. The screen blacked out just at one of the critical moments in the plot. The audience met it with stunned silence, followed by disbelieving laughter--you couldn't have timed the cliffhanger better. An employee finally came in to tell us a fuse had blown, and that there was no estimated time to fix.

Fortunately, this is the sort of movie that puts people in good humor. The picture came back on for a few more minutes, but without any sound. There were some shouts of annoyance, but that quickly gave way to the audience supplying the missing soundtrack. "Bam! Pow!" "Vrrrroooommm..." "I love you too!"

We went through two rounds of this, which was hilarious, but it was getting late. My friend and I finally got up and left; for all I know the remaining audience made up their own dialogue for the rest of the movie.

At least the theater gave us a refund on the way out. Now I've got to find time to see it again asap, but you know what? Unless the final ten minutes are utter crap, I would've gone to see it again anyway.

So no review today, but I'll take a chance on saying this:

I think I've found my new favorite movie of the year.

And I need an icon.
