JL on SNL, ROFL.
Oct. 24th, 2004 11:56 amHow ironic is it that on a show with a musical guest, the one who really proved he could sing live was...Jude Law?
His opening monologue last night on SNL has to rank among my all-time favorites. He pulled it off brilliantly, and his comfortableness playing to a live audience was obvious.
It was a decent episode overall, though as usual all the good sketches were at the top and the last few inevitably dragged (the Jane Eyre and Caine & O'Toole sketches, while not terribly funny, would have benefitted greatly from snappier pacing). The Sky Captain sketch had me rolling, more from Jude's peeved expressions than anything else, and he made a great Tony Blair. Weekend Update--I'm not a big SNL fan (I like the original cast though), but WU in the right hands (Dennis Miller, Chevy Chase, Norm MacDonald, Jane Curtin & Bill Murray, sometimes Kevin Nealon and Jimmy Fallon) can be the fool-proof highlight of the night--last night, it was shockingly unfunny. Ah well. Ashlee Simpson's snafu and Jude in a skirt balances all that out.
