I'd reply to your comment directly but I'm getting to it late, so wasn't sure if you'd see it...

But the whole game has always been playable as a single-player version; for those who didn't have broadband, for one thing.

Cool. (And thanks for the long explanation!) So when it's single-player, it's still in the vein of Myst? Puzzles, that sort of thing, or is it something else? I guess I never understood how puzzles were supposed to work in a multi-player environment.

Also: I found my Exile soundtrack today, which had indeed come with the game. I hadn't wanted any spoilers before finishing the game, so I'd set it aside. But out of sight, out of mind, you know? Meant to listen to it in the car on the way to work, except my CD player conked out.
