Pet peeve of the day.

I'm sure a lot of people use it correctly. But I've seen a lot of people use it wrong.

It's "parley," folks.

Not "parlez," "parlay," or any of the umpteen variations I've seen online to date. (Granted, they're close, but no cigar. "Parlez" is a conjugation of "parler" ("to speak" in French), and "parlay" means "to wager/bet" or "to maneuver (an asset) to great advantage.")

But "parley" is a legitimate word, for goshsakes. It's been in common usage since long before the movie. The movie did not invent the word; Disney did not invent the word; Ted and Terry, creative as they are, did not invent the word.

Look it up.

In noun form, it means "A discussion or conference, especially one between enemies over terms of truce or other matters."

It's also an intransitive verb, meaning "To have a discussion, especially with an enemy."
