Revisiting past fandoms.

While getting together some of my stuff for MW, I was seized with a sudden urge to go watch "A Coffin for Starsky" again. Now, back in the '90s I was a big Starsky & Hutch fan for several years, complete with lots of ficcing and compulsive re-watching, but after about '98 I sort of drifted away and haven't really gone back to it.
Anyway, I checked my tape index and figured out which tape it's on...only to find that, a couple of years ago, I had apparently cannibalized the tape for parts in order to fix another broken tape. I know which one, too: Bad News, which arrived from Amazon(?) with its tape case/reel partially shattered, and I could have returned it for a new one but I didn't want to wait any longer and so I transferred the whole thing to a different case right then and there. I can still remember sitting there winding the entire fricking tape onto the new reel by hand, all so I wouldn't have to wait another few days. Ah, fandom.
Anyway, I'm surprised to realize I haven't touched that tape in a few years now, and doubly surprised I picked tbat tape to cannibalize. I mean, "A Coffin for Starsky"? What was I thinking?
If you've never seen S&H--and I don't mean the Stiller/Wilson movie version--well, what are you waiting for? This series is fanfic come to life. Season 1, with hands down the best concentration of good episodes, is out on DVD. Not only does it contain "Coffin" (S & H race to find who hit Starsky with a slow poison), but also "The Fix" (Hutch gets forcibly hooked on heroin) and "Shootout" (Hutch has to keep Starsky alive during a botched mafia shooting), the Glorious Trinity of Save My Partner episodes, if you like that sort of thing.
Plus there's all the rest of the good stuff in S1...the shared coffees, the good/bad cop routines, the gratuitious pats on the stomach. Think you've seen guys with no concept of personal space around each other? You haven't seen these two.
Anyway, I wound up watching "Shootout" instead. Not a bad substitute, not at all.
