Both MSNBC (on TV) and CNN (on their online Pipeline) are re-playing, in real-time, their coverage from Sept. 11, 2001. I watched a bit of both, more out of respect than from any need to know (as would, I expect, most who tune in). After all, we saw it once live already: I remember watching it from home that morning, getting ready to go to work; and then once we got to work, spending our time glued to the TVs in the lounge and logging into news websites. (CNN's site was virtually unreachable for all the traffic; and when you did get through, you were confronted with a starkly blank page devoid of all but the most basic headlines.) And e-mailing friends to make sure they were safe, and hearing back that they were, but that for several of them, others that they knew were not. My brother wasn't feeling well that morning and hadn't heard the news; we called him and told him to turn on the TV. He called us back a few minutes later, all shaken up. At work we privately scoped out our nearest emergency exits, were alert to the slightest hint of an alarm. A couple of hours later, an announcement came through telling us all to go home.

It's strange, re-watching that footage, knowing what we know now: that the crash of Flight 93 was indeed part of the attack (when I last tuned in to the real-time rebroadcast, it was still a mystery), that air travel and building security would never be the same, that our troops are still overseas fighting the war, that Ground Zero has still not yet been re-built.

It's hard to believe it's been five years.

It's SO crazy. I was in 7th grade when it happened and now I'm getting ready to go to college. :/

Time just flies. Which is why I was so surprised when Hollywood started coming out with all these movies/TV-movies about Sept. 11. It felt like just yesterday to me.
