Curses! Foiled again!

No DVD playback on my computer. Nada. Zip. Zero. Claims I don't have the right codec (mpeg2), though I thought I did, and when I try to install it, it says it's already in there. I've just spent the last mmmfff hours on it and I'm ready to fall over. DVD playback worked fine while I had Ulead's DVD player trial installed, and it's only after the trial expired that I found I couldn't play DVDs using any other player.
The quick deduction is that I need Ulead's player, right? Problem is, I don't know for sure, because I never tried playing DVDs with another player before that. So there's no way to tell what the cause is (because, you know, the mpeg2 thing), and I'm not about to plunk down $40 if I can't guarantee that it'll work. And Ulead, being clever, doesn't let you do the trial again.
Thus is stalled the latest branch of my hobby, using screencaps to make icons. I wanted Depp screencaps from Lost in La Mancha. Alas, even my PC is out to get Terry Gilliam.

In other news, check out my latest icon! I'm inordinately pleased with it.
