I recently lost my favorite customized mint tin, a vintage-NYC design. For various reasons (mostly because I was testing out new techniques) I wound up re-making that tin at least three times over the last couple of years. Hence my reluctance to do it yet another time, at least until I'm 100% sure it's lost for good.

In the meantime, I still need something to carry around my delicious mints in. Red Dwarf to the rescue, then!

Thumbnail:

The back.

I know, I know, here I am cavalierly toting around candy rather than proper brushes inside this deceptively-labeled tin. No doubt I will rue the day that the desperate cry goes up: "Is there a walrus-brush in the house?" and I will sheepishly have only sugary goodness to offer.

But until that day comes, I will take my chances.

Another excuse to try out my new homemade lightbox A nice side view of both labels.

ETA: Some people have expressed interest in getting one...These are 2.25" mini mint tins, unused, and at the moment I have run out (I originally just made this one for myself, or I would've stocked up beforehand). If enough folks want them, I'll be ordering more. The labels are glossy and water-resistant (though like most labels, not waterproof). They're only $4 each + s/h.

Glad I could give you a laugh! I don't think any of my RL friends watch Dwarf...I'm going to be getting strange looks the next time I offer someone a mint...

Friended you back, btw.

Thanks! I've always loved small tins, and used to customize and sell fannish ones a couple years ago.

Originally I was going to do one with some sort of Jupiter Mining Co. logo, but this one seemed more fun.

crazy cool skills on that label.

Hey, thanks! I wanted to learn some things in Photoshop and what better motivator than to make a label depicting seabound mammals?

The laser printer darkened it a bit, but since it wasn't my printer I didn't get to play around with it. Still, not too shabby I think!

Thank you. Remember when I didn't want to get into RD fandom? Look how well that turned out...

Glad you like how the photos are turning out with the lightbox. I did a simplified version that only has light coming in through the top, but I'm going to go ahead and cut out the sides as well. I think your opals would look lovely in one.

If you were to sell something like this on etsy or thereabouts, I would probably have to buy one.

Glad you like it! I don't have an etsy shop, but I used to sell these kinds of tins at SF conventions at $4. I use new, blank mini mint tins, about 2 1/4" wide. I hardly have any blank tins left, since it's been a couple years since I last went to a con, but if you're interested drop me a line at lynnedhenson @ yahoo . com

Supremely nifty. And here I just keep and reuse mint tins. Maybe I should do something more with them.

Lack of brushes is bad but candy is good.

Thanks! I just love mint tins; they're so handy. The ones I make are all from unused blank tins (because I made them to sell), but there's no reason you can't paint over emptied-out ones or something. Lots of people like to cover them with polymer clay, too, but I haven't tried that myself.

Haha, I don't even know the original context, nor am I a Red Dwarf fan, but it's awesome and hilarious! :D You're just brilliant in everything you make. (And what lightbox do you mean?)

From: [identity profile] ldhenson.livejournal.com
Aw, thank you! It's from a throwaway joke in which Rimmer mocks Lister for sending away for junk items just so he'll receive more mail, and comes up with a spurious example about a "portable walrus polishing kit." Well, I couldn't let an idea like that go to waste now could I?

My lightbox is based on this one (http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html). It looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. I only cut out the top, but now I want more light so I'll be cutting out the sides as well.

I was offering them for $4 + s/h, but at the moment I've run out of blank tins. I do have a few people waiting as well, so it's likely I'll order more tins if enough people want them. Drop me an e-mail at lynnedhenson @ yahoo . com if you're interested.
