From [livejournal.com profile] filkertom's LJ:

Majel Barrett Roddenberry has passed away.

As a fan of Classic Trek--I was wild about it in my junior high and early high school years--I'm saddened to hear this.

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting her and found her to be a generous and gracious lady.

I was saddened to read those news.

I seem to have read only good things about her. Sounds like she was a lovely person. How did you get to meet her?

As I said, it was many years (decades) ago. Friends of mine were organizing a Trek Con. That was well before the larger professionally organized cons. At the time I helped a lot behind the scenes and was also the general chauffeur and gopher, so I saw her from closer quarters. She and Richard Arnold (our other guest) made time for the fans, offered encouragement at several competitions. She was much more around than she had previously agreed on because she felt very comfortable.

Nearly all the cons I've been to haven't had guests, so I enjoy hearing these stories. It was very cool of her to get into the events so much.
