POTC: Dead Man's Chest (no spoilers)
Jul. 9th, 2006 09:32 pmFirst off, I love POTC. I own POTC.
But when I saw the first trailers for POTC2 last year, I was less than thrilled by it. Even in those few short minutes I had the distinct impression that the sequel was ham-handed and suffering from big-budget-itis.
Still, when my friends wanted to see it last night, I figured why not, out of curiosity. And at the end of it, I have three conclusions:
1. The SFX is flawless and mesmerizing.
2. I was genuninely ROFL a good six or eight times.
3. Even given 1. and 2., and the fact that I went in with low expectations, I can honestly say I'm surprised...that it was in fact several orders of magnitude worse than I'd feared. I haven't loathed a movie and its ( with two exceptions ) purported protagonists so much in a long, long time.
If not for my friends, especially one of my best friends who really enjoyed it, I would've walked out at the twenty-minute mark and not regretted it a bit.
Movie, I want 2.5 hours of my life back.
