Some of you who've followed my earlier crafting will know that this was probably inevitable.

I have no resistance against shadow boxes.

Thumbnail:

Sherlock and John out for a quiet stroll on a crisp snowy evening.

Where to tonight, Sherlock? The Gherkin?

...Tower Bridge?

Why don't you decide, John. After all I am lost without my...oh, you know. Lead on.

Rising crane shot, swell of lush music, fade to black.

Made from cardstock, cut as a single piece and then folded, no adhesives. It measures 9cm x 15cm x 6cm, give or take a few mm.

This is gorgeous. I love the details - the little stars, the turrets (spires? I'm not good at names of architecture), the streetlight, it's all just amazing. And John and Sherlock are totally recognizable. The whole piece is absolutely lovely! :)

Thank you! I think those are spires since they're pointed (disclaimer: not an expert here either and will be gladly corrected). The stars and snowflakes were fun to do--I don't have a hole punch so those were done with a screwdriver and round-nosed pliers.

You are just getting more and more inventive with each new thing you make! I love when that happens, you really seem to have a natural mind for this kind of negative space. I would love to see your stuff in a proper shadow box, with a light display and everything. Or heck maybe as just a lampshade, I've seen some really nice papercut lampshades on Etsy but yours would take the cake.

Thanks so much! I try to see if I can come up with some new technique each time, so I appreciate that. Paper is endlessly fun to experiment with.

Oh yes, I'd love to see some of my more 2-D cuttings in a shadow box, if only I could find some affordable ones of the right size (I've only got small ones). As for a lampsahde, someone suggested that recently also. I hadn't thought about it before, but working with light/shadow that way would definitely be interesting!

Thank you! This one almost didn't get made; I was working on an unrelated design which failed utterly at the last minute, but while looking over the mess I had a flash of inspiration for this one. So it came out all right :-)

Thank you! I'm self-taught so there's a lot of trial and error involved, and I learn something new every time. For this one I didn't fully cut my draft, much less do a draft build, so even though I'm happy with the final result, if I were to do it again I'd make a small structural change. It's quite stable on a flat surface, but I'm never entirely satisfied if I know it could be reinforced even more. Oh well, next time I'll know how...
